Sassy City Chicks – Andaz at Ivy 2/27/14

Sassy City Chicks – Andaz at Ivy 2/27/14

Sassy City Chicks was a great event once again here in San Diego. Despite the rain, vendors and sassy ladies were there to shop the latest fashions, sip cocktails, and get a little pampering.

I was able to get my eyebrows threaded and a manicure that I loved. It is important to get there early if you want to take advantage of the services because the spots fill up really fast. I got there right around 6pm and I had to wait until 6:30 for my manicure and 8:30 for my eyebrows. Just something to keep in mind.

They raffled off a Kate Spade purse and many of the vendors had their own raffles, as well, so that was fun. I found some great jewelry and clothes. They had some great deals, too.

I invited a few girl friends and we had a lovely time. If you get your tickets early enough, you can get really cheap tickets, which is cool. If not, it is still worth the money for the ticket if you do take advantage of the great deals and pampering. This event only happens a few times a year but you can check their Facebook page to find the next one: https://www.facebook.com/SassyCityChicks

Top San Diego Wedding Vendors – Wedding Vendors in San Diego

Top San Diego Wedding Vendors – Wedding Vendors in San Diego

by Rayna Seaman from Wedding Crowd

I had just gotten engaged and was super excited to marry the man of my dreams!!  Getting engaged is such an exhilarating time in your life and when the dust of it settles you have to begin planning your wedding.

As you may have already discovered, planning your wedding can be an extremely stressful time in your life and it proves to be no easy task.  On top of the traditional sources leading to stress, I had been only living in San Diego for about 6 months at the time of my engagement.  So not only did I have to book vendors, I also had to do it without any recommendations because I was not familiar with the area.

So I was left to hours upon hours of research and reading reviews before I could make any of my decisions.  And you may also be on that same boat…maybe you are the first of your friends to be engaged or just don’t have any word of mouth recommendations that you could rely on.

So you are on a site about San Diego and probably are wondering how this all fits in.  A big part of planning your wedding is having trust in the vendors that you ultimately choose to be a part of your big day.

Because I did all of my hard work and research for you, I wanted to provide you with some recommendations for the vendors that knocked my socks off.  After all, if you are looking for a vendor, wouldn’t a great recommendation be a driving force for booking?

So without further ado, here are my top 3 reviews for you of some FABULOUS vendors that made all of that hard work and research all worth it.

Wedding Venue: The Sheraton on Harbor Island, Bay Tower (link to http://www.sheratonsandiegohotel.com/weddings/)

I was absolutely pleased with our decision to have our Ceremony and Reception at the Sheraton on Harbor Island, Bay Tower.  Our wedding coordinator Susan was extremely nice and helpful also.  The Ceremony site was breathtakingly beautiful and overlooked the Marina, making for spectacular photo ops.  The Reception site had the Cocktail Hour outside on a balcony which was just perfect and the inside was so gorgeous too, matching my colors for a Beach Themed wedding.

I received RAVE reviews about the food.  I was actually told many people didn’t dance because they kept eating more and more.  I have to agree 1000% with them because the food was out of this world.  I still am dreaming of their coconut chicken on a stick and balsamic glazed veggies.  If you are a foodie, this is the place to have your wedding.

A con to having it there is that I invited all of our out-of-town guests coming from the East Coast to stay there.  They reported some hotel issues and we even experienced some ourselves apparently due to a staff shortage during Labor Day Weekend.

Although we had some issues with the hotel, the complimentary suite they gave us was amazing and had champagne and strawberries.  Overall, I would recommend the Sheraton as a perfect place to hold your dream wedding.

Hair & Makeup: Beautiful Brides (link to http://beautifulbridesandiego.com/services)

Noriko did our makeup and I have 2 words to describe her services: Flawless Artwork!  From the moment I met her, I knew that she was the one to hire for my big day.  My hair and makeup trial was soooo amazing that I wish I would have had somewhere special to go afterward!  She was super friendly and nice and made me feel comfortable.  So after booking her, I knew that I made the right choice.

Then on my Wedding day she arrived right on time and ready to go.  Again, she had a knack of making me feel comfortable and us girls all chatted up a storm while artwork was being made.  Honestly—her makeup was pure beauty and I felt like a princess.  Noriko did our makeup, using air-brush and traditional makeup.

Mebe came with her and she proved to also be a wonderful artist!  She was super friendly and engaged us in conversation.  When my nerves got the best of me, she had a knack of calming me down!  She did my hair soooo perfectly too!

When all was said and done…I had my vision multiplied many times more.  Combined, the two made me look better than I envisioned.  Also…I am a CRYER!! The makeup lasted ALL day.  I had an afternoon wedding, so my makeup was done bright and early and lasted through until the end of the night when the after-party was done.  Pure perfection!

Officiant: Pastor Jack Hawkins (link to http://sandiegoweddingguy.com/sandiegoweddingguy.com/Welcome.html)

When I began researching who I would choose to marry my husband and I, I started with reading reviews.  After narrowing down the search in our area, we kept going back to Pastor Jack Hawkins.

Although he was just a bit more money than other officiant’s out there, his reviews seemed outstanding.  There was even a video excerpt from one of the weddings he did and his charm and friendly personality made us want to use his services just that more.

Sure enough, he absolutely hands down exceeded our expectations!  I know it was my own wedding, so I may be biased, but I hands down believe it was THE best ceremony I have ever heard.  He made us laugh, he made us cry and made us the happiest couple in the universe.

His ceremony was so heartfelt and represented the both of us as a couple that it engaged us and our guests.  We got soooo many compliments!  Then to boot he gave us a copy of the amazing words he spoke that day…now that is something I will have as a keepsake forever and ever.

If you are not sure who you want to marry you…make an appointment with him.  I promise that you won’t be disappointed!

Congratulations on your engagement and I wish you the same happiness during your ceremony that we had during ours!  I hope that these reviews will help you in your journey.

Until next time, Happy Planning Busy Brides!

xoxo J

Healing Secrets From Romania – Silvia’s Eurotherapy Health Spa

I had the pleasure of meeting Sylvia from Sylvia’s EuroHealth Spa. She uses herbs that she grows to make her own lotions, creams, and oils for healing. She has helped her clients heal cancers, get rid of wrinkles, acne, and brown spots, heal diseases, and much more. She offers many services, including facials, massages, yoga, energy healing, chakra balancing, and healing with her ancient herbal remedies. She grows her own herbs at her home spa and they are all organic. She has worked in the spa at many famous resorts, including the Hotel Del Coronado.

The first service I had from her was a mucus/ sinus treatment. She has a special machine that mixes her herbs with steam that helps heal your body. During the massage she used herbs to open up my sinuses and get rid of the mucus in my head. She believes that mucus is a big cause of health problems, along with a lack of oxygen in the body. I didn’t even know I had mucus build up but a lot came out during the treatment. I felt really great when she was done.

The next time I went to see her I had a facial. She used a variety of different creams and the a special tool that almost seemed to electrocute my face (it was more loud than anything but didn’t hurt) which helps kill bacteria under the skin. Her facials don’t just treat the surface skin, they penetrate the seven layers to produce collagen. Her products have a lot of antioxidants, as well. My skin looked radiant when she was done. I definitely recommend her. She said she can get rid of brown spots in just a few sessions. I am excited to go back.

Stone Brewery San Diego

We have a special guest post from Jessica Barna,  a business organizing expert and the owner of Meet Me at the Office! She loves Stone Brewery so she wanted to share some information with you.

Here are the things I adore about Stone Brewery:

  1. The Grounds: The brewery is located in what seems like the middle of nowhere. There are beautiful rocks, water falls, hand carved wood tables and seats, ponds, bridges, patios, etc.
  2. The TV-less Atmosphere: There are NO TVs in this place – which is nice and rare for a bar!
  3. The variety available: There are brewery tours, grounds to explore, a store to peruse, a restaurant to try, and several bars open.
  4. The Beer: Gotta love the beer. Stone’s Ruination is my favorite. They have many non-Stone bottles available, also. You can take home bottles or growlers of beer. Cool!

Here are things I would change about Stone Brewery:

  1. The service: There are always tons of employees, but drinks will sit empty for long periods of time, tables won’t get bussed, plates aren’t removed, and it’s hard to get employees attention. They like to stand around and talk to each other in groups.
  2. The food: Even though I was hungry and drinking, nothing appealed to me on the menu. I ended up settling on a Stinky Cheese plate for $18. Next time, I’ll eat before or after I go.
  3. The prices: Most beers are at least $6, and to my knowledge, no happy hours or specials exist. The food prices seemed pretty outrageous to me, especially since nothing sounded appealing.

Overall, if you’re visiting San Diego or live in San Diego, I think Stone Brewery is a must-see. Get a beer tour, grab a beer, walk the grounds, visit the store.

Linda White – Shaman & Healer – Integrative Core Healing

The first time I met with Linda White at her home office in the college area I wasn’t sure what would happen with the session. All I knew was she was a shaman and a healer. I had met her a few times before at different events and I was excited about seeing what she could do. She told me to bring a tape recorder so I could record the session to listen to later.

I walked in and we talked about what I wanted to work on. She was told by her guides I had challenges with my power but I insisted that I feel very powerful. After talking to her a bit more I confessed that I was terrified to go on a date. I didn’t equate this with my power until she said something. We decided this is what we would work on.

Once that was decided I laid down on her table and got comfortable. She read my energy and brought up some issues I had as a child. Then she did some work to heal them. She brought up a lot of issues that I hadn’t really realized were issues until I started crying. As far as I have come, I still have a lot of work to do. We then did a visualization technique that she walked me through. Then she did some more healing and the session was done.

It was only supposed to be a one hour session but it actually lasted over 90 minutes. She said she brought up a lot of stuff but only because she thought I could handle it. I’m not sure if that was true or not because I was pretty emotional for a few days. I didn’t know quite what was wrong with me. I just felt a little emotionally lost. I guess I was dealing with stuff that I hadn’t let myself deal with. I felt fine after a few days, though.

The next time I met with her, we went over my progress from last time and then again went over what I wanted to deal with and got right to it. She did seem concerned that I had been emotional and asked why I hadn’t called her (she mentioned if anything happened I could call her) & I just said I thought it was something I should deal with myself. We decided to keep working on my desire to control things and outcomes and then she went to work while I lay on the table. I felt like I let a lot of stuff go & felt great afterwards. I cleaned out my closet & I didn’t have any of the emotional stuff I had the last time.

I definitely recommend Linda as a healer. I would just say that it is important that you are ready to deal with your “stuff” and heal it once and for all, instead of just pretending you don’t have those feelings. I got a certificate through www.eLiveLife.com so it was a great deal, too. Even at regular price it is well worth it for getting over things you didn’t even know you had issues with.

Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage in San Diego

I had my first Lomi Lomi Hawaiian massage in San Diego last week with Krissy. I’ve tried different types of massages but this one was interesting because it was almost like a dance with her hands and arms on my back to Hawaiian music. Lomi Lomi is a type of massage used by Hawaiians for healing so it is more of a ritual massage than other types.

I scheduled a 90 minute session as recommended and was a little late for my appointment. Krissy was very gracious about this. I filled out a form and then Krissy took the time to explain the massage to me and then ask what I was comfortable with and my preferences. The room was small but pleasant. I was told to undress and then lie under the covers on the massage table. There were three sheets and the leg pillow was heated so it was nice and warm. Hawaiian music was playing and I felt like I was on a beach in Hawaii.

She got started and it is a lighter massage but very relaxing. Krissy is a reiki healer and she incorporates that healing with the massage, as well. The 90 minutes flew by and I was relaxed all over when I was done. She works at Clinique Liposculpture in Carlsbad. It was $95 for a 90 minute session. If you would like to book an appointment with her call (760) 846-1822.

The Psychic Gym With John – Personal Growth

the Psychic Gym

My new year’s resolution is to be open to new things and to try at least 2-3 new things every week. I was looking through the meetups on the meetup.com homepage to see what I could find and I came across the psychic gym with John.  I was intrigued by the description:

“a blend of my intuitive gifts and Quantum technology’s to aid you in your Personal Growth.
I have been sharing a NEW modality, one that helps remove blocks either physical emotional or spiritual.
It takes about 3 – 5 min per person to experience and EVERYONE has a on the spot physical shift / response.
About 90 % of the people who experience it will go into a semi unconscious state as part of the releasing process the other 10 % will experience other measurable physical sensations.”

It almost seemed like a dare since “everyone” has a response. I rsvp’d for a 5pm mini-experience not really knowing what to expect. I figured for $10 it might be worth it. I got there a few minutes early and he explained how he had arthritis so bad he could barely move and now he just went rollerskating. He explained how he helps people learn how to heal themselves and get rid of all of their emotional “boxes” they have been storing. It sounded pretty amazing and I was eager to get started.

We went to the room where he has his group meetings. He told me to try to remain standing for as long as I could but there was a chair behind me if I felt I needed to sit. He told me to focus my energy on my heart and he walked me through that. I quickly went into meditation and felt very open. It took about 5 minutes total before I opened my eyes. I didn’t really want to but I knew I was limited in time before the next person had their turn.

He told me I had cleared some stuff away and asked if I wanted to do it again. Since the first time felt so good, I happily accepted. This time was much different. I felt like he was trapping me. I felt almost angry toward him. I also had some energy in my leg that actually felt like it was stuck in there. I opened my eyes almost right away when he was done because I was so confused. He explained that a lot of our emotions are actually how we identify ourselves and we hold onto stuff because we think we need it. If something comes along and tries to take them away, even if they are hurting us, we resist it and fight to maintain what we know. I thought that was so interesting.

I asked him to do it one more time since I obviously had stuff I was still holding onto and he agreed. This time I tried to just allow everything to be ok, whatever happened. This time it almost felt like layers of me were shrinking and falling through the Earth. I don’t really know how else to explain it but it felt funny. Afterward I felt like I was high on something. I was giggling at everything and felt very light. It was funny. John said that it was a very normal reaction and that for a lot of people he makes them stay until they get “grounded” again.

Spin Class Cycling San Diego at The New Breed Fitness

spin cycling class

I’m not a huge fan of the gym and spin class cycling is about the  last thing I thought I would voluntarily sign up for… afterall, I would much rather be outside and ride a bike if I wanted to do that. However, when my friend invited me to try a free spin class at the New Breed Fitness, I thought I would just go and check it out. I do like trying new things and I hadn’t been to the New Breed Fitness to work out before, so I agreed to go.

The first thing I noticed about the gym was the awesome energy. They play fun music, the four trainers who work there are super nice and friendly (and have totally awesome bodies and are pretty nice to look at), and it is a small, private gym so it doesn’t have that generic gym feel to it. I asked and found out the class was upstairs, so I walked up to find my bike. Again, the idea of riding a stationary bike for an hour did not sound fun at all, so I was not looking forward to it.

Stan is the spin class trainer on Monday nights. He is super silly and makes the class really fun. He dances around and acts pretty goofy so that we’ll laugh. The class is definitely a great workout and you will sweat, but he breaks up the bike with different floor exercises so it isn’t boring. I actually found myself enjoying the class! I didn’t think that would happen. After the first class I was hooked. I started going every week.

If you’re looking for a great workout that is really fun, then I would suggest spin class cycling at the New Breed. They also offer yoga, martial arts, and personal training. The first class/workout is free so I totally recommend checking it out. You might just find you have as much fun as I do! Classes are $10 or 10 for $80 so it is really affordable even after the first free class.

Seven Chakras Crystal Bowl Healing Sessions

Seven Chakras Crystal Bowl Healing Sessions san diego

I have been doing yoga and meditation for quite some time now but I had never gone to a group meditation session before going to the group bowl session at the Universal Spirit Center in Hillcrest. A friend invited me to go to Dr. Maria Theresa’s seven chakra crystal bowl healing session for the first time a few months ago and I loved it. She has different events throughout the month but on the last Sunday is the group public bowl session. It is from 6:30-8pm.

Be sure to bring a blanket and a pillow and you might even want to bring an eye mask, as there is a low light on. There are usually about 20-30 people who go and it is a love offering donation, so you pay what you can. I would suggest $15 but if you can’t afford that or can afford more, it is up to you. She doesn’t check to see who pays or how much, there is a basket for the money.

According to her website:

“Group bowl sessions utilize the power and beauty of Quartz Crystal Bowls. These higher vibrational  instruments  promote balanced mind-body-spirit function and Well-being. They are tuned to the key of middle “C” which opens us to deeply receiving what they have to offer.  Bowl sound vibrations absorb into the brain and all the major organs of the body through the Chakra Energy Centers.”

My first time I really didn’t know what to expect. When I walked into the room I saw a lot of scattered people lying on blankets. Some were sitting up. I started by sitting but I moved around a bit, since it lasts awhile and my legs were falling asleep. The power of the bowls is amazing. Some people have out-of-body experiences. I just feel really peaceful.

Radiant Health Yoga San Diego – Yoga San Diego

yoga san diego

I have taken quite a few yoga classes and I really enjoy the feeling of peace I get when I do yoga. One of my favorite yoga classes was an outdoor yoga fundraiser where it started lightly misting right at the end of the class. I felt like the water was cleansing and renewing us after the class. Even though I have done quite a few yoga classes, I really loved my sessions at Radiant Health Yoga in La Mesa with Sherry Kay Bernard.

Sherry has been teaching yoga for 26 years and she is just the sweetest thing. I first met her at a fundraising event and what I really noticed about her was that she seemed to really want to help people.  At most events I go to, the people don’t seem to really try to connect with you. Sherry does. She asks questions and tries to get to know you, and not just so you’ll come to her classes. She really does care about people.

At the fundraiser she told me about her new center and how she was going to start holding group yoga classes. She also told me about her private yoga/ Thai massage sessions she does. I made an appointment for the private yoga/massage session. It was amazing. I didn’t think there would be much of a difference between the private and group class, but just having someone walk through the postures with you and help you with them is just such a treat. Some postures I thought I was doing just fine and she helped gently adjust me. Then she did the massage and I was just in heaven. I can’t even really explain the difference to you. I just felt like a new person.

I went to the group class last Tuesday and even that is just such a wonderful experience. It was a “relaxing evening yoga” session so it was a slower paced class with a lot of breathing and stretching. I can’t really explain why her classes seem so different, besides the personal attention you get. It is something you have to experience for yourself. The cool thing is she is doing free 45 minute consultations and first group yoga class free, so you can try it and see what I mean.
